ZENworks for desktops
ZENworks for Desktops is a Novell product designed to help manage and maintain desktop computers in a large environment such as ours. Utilizing ZENworks, CINS technicians will be able to:
- Transparently “push” software installations/updates/patches to your computer, minimizing disruptions and keeping you working, not waiting.
- Fix computer problems quickly and efficiently by remote controlling your computer. Each remote control session requires your permission, so there is no need to worry about invasion of privacy.
- Maintain an inventory of computer hardware and software, a task that is cumbersome at best when done manually.
Let’s look at some typical scenarios where ZENworks will help CINS work better for you:
- Let’s say that a Banner upgrade requires a new version of the J-Initiator (sound familiar?). CINS creates an installation package and pushes it down to all campus computers. Done. No phone calls to the Help Desk, no eQuest requests, no technicians hoofing it across campus.
- Now let’s say that you just moved to a new office and need access to the network printer nearby. A CINS technician takes remote control of your computer (with your permission, of course) and installs the printer driver on the spot. No muss, no fuss, no waiting.
- Or, what if you were working against a deadline and pop-ups started suddenly, and persistently, appearing on your computer? With ZENworks remote control, problem solved, quickly and efficiently, allowing you to meet your deadline and allowing CINS to help the next person.
