Network connection - CougarWave Open

On 04/12/2007, CINS implemented an unencrypted, easier-to-use wireless network named CougarWaveOpen. CougarWaveOpen addresses many issues raised by customers by removing the need for them to bring their laptops to CINS for wireless software installation, while still providing security via web based login. It also allows our customers to connect to the network using wireless-enabled handheld devices such as PDAs and does not require additional wireless software.

How to connect:

  1. Click "Start", then "Connect To", then click the menu item that represents your wireless network connection. In the example image below, the wireless network connection is represented as "Wireless Network Connection 2".

  5. You will then be presented with a dialog box that will show you all of the available wireless network within range. If you are within range of CSU's CougarWaveOpen network, you should see "CougarWaveOpen" in the list of available networks. (Please see our campus wireless network coverage map for locations on CSU's main campus that should have wireless coverage.)

  13. At the CougarWaveOpen login page, enter your Novell username and password, then click the "Login" button. Your username will be in the form "lastname_firstname", and the password will be the password you last used to successfully log in to a computer in an office or lab on main campus.

  15. If your username and password are both entered correctly and submitted successfully, you will be taken to a "Successful Login" page. This page will have a "Disconnect" link that should only be used if you decide to connect to a different wireless network. Otherwise, you may minimize or close this window and begin using the Internet and other network-based resources as you normally would with your wireless device.

  17. If there was a problem processing your username and/or password, you will be taken to a Login Failure page. This page will include a "Try Again" link that will take you back to the initial login page. This will allow you to re-enter your username and password. Some common causes of reaching the "Login Failure" page are: mistyped username and/or password, account disabled, or password expired.
