Wireless network

CINS continually strives to enhance the computing experience for the CSU community. One way in which we accomplish this goal is by examining new computer technologies as they emerge. We are excited and proud to announce that one such new technology, wireless computing, is now an integral part of the CSU network.

Mobility and convenience

Wireless computing provides a new level of mobility and convenience to CSU computer users, allowing mobile users to access valuable network and Internet resources anywhere that wireless coverage exists on campus. Here are just a few examples of the new computing opportunities that wireless networking will offer CSU users:

  • Work on a research paper in the library while reviewing the latest periodicals related to your topic.
  • Review your CougarNet e-mail inside or outside of the Cafeteria while grabbing a bite to eat.
  • Put the final touches on your assignments in the lobby or lounge areas of CCT while waiting for class to begin.

Security

Normally, the ideas of “convenience” and “lack of security” go hand in hand when referring to wireless technology. However, CINS recognized early on that security had to be the number one priority in a wireless technology solution for CSU. As a result, we have implemented a solution that provides both strong encryption and secure authentication for the wireless users, while still maintaining a high level of convenience.

As we move into the future, look for expanded coverage on the main and downtown campuses, as well as the integration of new and exciting wireless technologies.
