Faculty account creation procedure

Academic Affairs submits a new account request to CINS after notification from the new faculty member’s Department Head or Dean that hiring process is complete.

When CINS receives the new account request, the network account is created and login information Emailed to the new faculty member’s Department Head or Dean.

Staff account creation procedure

Human Resources submits a new account request to CINS after new staff completes the New Employee Orientation.

When CINS receives a new account request from HR, the network account is created and login information is e-mailed to the hiring supervisor.

Novell login

Faculty and staff can log onto CSU computers using the following username and password information:

• Username: lastname_firstname
• Password: Date of birth in the form DDMMYY (Example: June 5, 1984 = 050684)

Faculty and staff are required to change their password at the first login and every 45 days thereafter. The same password cannot be used twice and passwords require a format of 6 or more alphanumeric characters.

Using containers

All faculty, staff and students at CSU who login to Novell, are added to “Containers”.

The Facstaff container consists of all Faculty and Staff who work on campus.
The Students container consists of all currently enrolled students.
The River container includes all Faculty and staff who work at the River Center or Rankin.

Under normal circumstances, users login using lastname_firstname. Containers aren’t required as long as users logging in are in the same container. For instance, a student cannot log onto a computer if the Facstaff container is selected and vice-versa.

Users should make it a habit to check the container when experiencing login problems. This can be done by clicking on the “Advanced” button of the Novell Login Box. Containers can be added by typing them in.
