Tip: Most computer problems can be resolved by restarting your computer. If the problem is stemming from an external device (printer, scanner, etc.) you should also turn that device off and back on.

If restarting your computer does not fix your problem, you may also want to try shutting it down for a couple of minutes, then reboot to see if that fixes the problem.

If you have a docking station, shut down the computer, take the laptop out, put the laptop back in the docking station and turn it back on.

If your computer is frozen:

  • The first thing that you can try to do is to hold down Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys.
  • Click on the “Task List” tab. (WindowsXP)
  • Choose the program that is “not responding”, then click on “End Task.”
  • Then shut down the computer.
  • If the Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys do not work, then you will need to hold in the power button until the computer shuts down. (Approx. 5 seconds)
  • Turn the computer back on and see if the problem still persists.
  • If it does, submit a request for service using eQuest. Describe what you were trying to do and the exact sequence of events that led to the problem. Give us exact text of any error messages.

How can I get service?

  • Submit a request through eQuest in the name of the person who needs the service. For more information about how to submit a request, click on http://csu.colstate.edu/remedy/.
  • Urgent problems can be reported by calling the CINS Helpdesk at 706-507-8100.
  • Please see Policies related to services provided by CINS Department.
