Banner account

The Banner Functional Leader, Valerie Alexander-Spicer (706-568-5257) will determine the correct program/reporting access and return the information to the Banner Technical Leader in CINS (Rick Tew). After the login and password are created, the Banner Functional Leader will be notified who in turn will notify the user of the new user id/password.

Secure passwords

Choosing secure passwords is an important step in safeguarding your data and keeping intruders at bay. Here are a few tips for creating secure passwords:

• Don’t use personal information like family names, your address, your occupation, etc. These are the first passwords an intruder will try.
• Don’t use words found in the dictionary. Password cracking programs simply go thru the dictionary looking for a match.
• Don’t use keys that are next to each other or repetitive like asdfgh or ajajajaj! Someone looking over your shoulder can remember that.
• Don’t use letters only. A combination of numbers and letters is harder to guess.
• Don’t write your password on a sticky note and place it on or in your desk.

Examples of secure passwords:

• Put a word inside a word: WOinsideRD
• Use a number instead of a letter – inside becomes 1ns1de
• Use the first letter of each word in a song title: St. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band = splhcb
• Add a number at the beginning, middle or end of any of the above
• Use wild characters: ! % * $ @

CougarNet login

The following login information is for new Faculty and Staff:

CougarNet Login for New Faculty/Staff:

• Username: lastname_firstname
  Example: Doe_John
• Password: Your birthdate in the format of DayMonthYear (DDMMYY)
  Example: March 26, 1971 = 260371

New users should reset their initial password. How?

• Open the CougarNet login page
• Click on the Forgot Password button. Read and follow all instructions carefully
• This process will reset your ISIS password as well

HINT: CougarNet and ISIS passwords are the same

Web accounts

To request a web account and sign up for free web pages, go to http://facstaff.colstate.edu/

Users must have a CSUWEB account to access a CSU website (Personal or Department). A CSUWEB account contains a Username in the format of:

• Username: csuweb\lastname_firstname
• Password: issued by the webmaster via e-mail

If you have forgotten or lost your CSUWEB password, go to http://facstaff.colstate.edu/ and click on “Lost Password”. Users may also go to http://students.colstate.edu, click on the “Get Free Web Page” icon, and then click on “Lost Password”.
